Terms of Service

Last updated: September 25, 2026

Welcome to RecipeBackup. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the RecipeBackup website, including any recipes, tools, and account features we provide (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.

1. Your Account

Some features require an account. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity that happens under your account. Let us know right away if you think your account has been accessed without your permission.

2. Recipe Content & Food Safety

Recipes, ingredient amounts, cook times, and equipment suggestions on RecipeBackup are provided for general informational and inspirational purposes only. They are not a substitute for your own judgment about food safety, ingredient freshness, cooking temperatures, or your own or your guests' allergies, dietary restrictions, or medical needs. Always check ingredient labels, use a food thermometer where appropriate, and consult a medical professional about dietary concerns. You use any recipe or instructions at your own risk.

3. User Content

If RecipeBackup allows you to submit content (such as saved recipes, notes, reviews, or profile information), you keep ownership of what you submit. By submitting content, you grant RecipeBackup a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, display, and otherwise use that content to operate and improve the Service. You're responsible for making sure you have the right to share anything you submit, and for its accuracy.

4. Acceptable Use

Please don't use RecipeBackup to do anything unlawful, to infringe someone else's rights, to interfere with the Service's operation (including scraping, automated data collection, or attempts to bypass security controls), or to upload harmful or malicious content.

5. Linked AI / Your Own API Keys

Make It's AI Mode lets you connect your own Anthropic and/or OpenAI account by pasting in an API key you generate on that provider's platform ("Linked AI"). This section covers that feature specifically.

Premium required. Connecting, switching, or using a Linked AI key requires an active Premium subscription, the same as Hosted AI (see Section 6 below) — bringing your own key changes who is billed for the AI request itself, not whether a subscription is required to use the feature. If your subscription lapses, any key you already saved stays on your account and you can still remove it or turn Linked AI off, but you won't be able to connect a new key, switch providers, or make further Linked AI requests until you resubscribe.

Storage and encryption. A key you save is encrypted at rest using the same AES-256 encryption we use to protect other sensitive account fields, and is never displayed back to you in plain text once saved. It's decrypted only at the moment we need to make a request to your chosen provider on your behalf.

How it's used. We use your key only to send your own voice commands during Make It to the provider you've selected, and to return that provider's response back to you. We don't use your key for any other user's requests, we don't use it to train any model, and we don't share, sell, or disclose it to any third party other than the AI provider the key belongs to.

You control the connection. You can switch your active provider, remove a saved key, or turn Linked AI off entirely at any time from your account's AI Mode settings. Removing a key deletes it from our storage; it doesn't revoke the key on the provider's side, so if you want to fully invalidate it, do that from the provider's own dashboard as well.

Costs and usage limits are between you and your provider. Requests made with your key are billed by Anthropic or OpenAI directly to your account with them, at their pricing — RecipeBackup never sees or charges you for that usage. We strongly recommend scoping any key you generate to its own workspace or project (rather than a key with access to your whole account) and setting a monthly spend limit on it before pasting it in, so a bug, a leaked key, or unexpectedly heavy use can't run away with your bill. As a starting point: $15/month for an Anthropic key and $5/month for an OpenAI key comfortably covers typical Make It usage under our own 150 requests/day cap on this feature; raise those numbers only if you expect to use voice commands substantially more than that. We may change our own daily request cap over time, in which case we'll aim to keep this guidance reasonably current.

We're not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or behavior of any third-party AI provider, or for any charges you incur on your own account with them.

6. Hosted AI Subscription & AI Credit

Make It's AI Mode also offers "Hosted AI" — we run the AI for you using our own account, so you don't need an API key. Hosted AI is included with an active Premium subscription, billed automatically through Stripe until you cancel. We currently offer a Monthly Plan and a 3-Month Plan; see your account's Subscription page for current pricing and options, including any one-time discounted offer to move from the Monthly Plan to the 3-Month Plan.

AI credit. Each successful billing cycle grants your account a fixed amount of AI credit for that cycle's length (see your account's Subscription page for the current amount) that's spent down as you use Hosted AI. Unused credit rolls over from one cycle to the next, up to an overall maximum tied to your plan length (see your account's Subscription page for the current figure — longer billing cycles carry a higher maximum) — if a new cycle's credit would push your balance over that cap, only the portion that fits is added, and the rest is forfeited, not banked for later. You can also purchase one-time top-ups of additional credit while subscribed, added to that same balance and subject to that same overall maximum. We won't let you purchase a top-up that would push your balance past it — the purchase option is unavailable once you're at the cap, so you won't be charged for credit you can't receive.

AI credit has no cash value. It can't be transferred, exchanged, redeemed for money, or refunded — including credit lost to the cap described above.

Canceling your subscription. Any AI credit already in your balance stays on your account, but Hosted AI itself requires an active subscription to use regardless of your remaining balance — canceling doesn't refund unused credit, and that credit simply can't be spent again until you resubscribe.

We may change Hosted AI's pricing, billing cycle lengths, credit amounts, or rollover caps over time; if we do, we'll update this section and the "Last updated" date above.

7. Third-Party Links

The Service may link to third-party sites or content we don't control. We're not responsible for the content, policies, or practices of any third-party site.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We don't guarantee the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any recipe or piece of content will be accurate, complete, or suitable for your particular needs.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, RecipeBackup and its operators won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, use, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service — including any illness, injury, or allergic reaction related to food prepared from a recipe on the Service.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the revised Terms.
